Stephen > I see what looks like pollen on its beak but it sure did not want to sip any nectar from flowers when I was watching. I settled for this nice in flight pose. Midlothian, Texas, August 2009
Stephen > My daughter pointed out this green lynx spider that was visiting my roses in my backyard. Midlothian, Texas, September 2008
Stephen > This Bewick's Wren was flitting around this hackberry tree in my yard and allowed me this rather close approach before flying off to another tree. My DOF here is a bit shallow, but I still like the photo. Midlothian, Texas. March 2008.
Stephen > This is a ruby throated hummingbird. It was perched in a willow tree in which the hummingbirds love to spend time for some reason. I caught this one though in between branches. Midlothian, Texas, September 2007.
Stephen > I did something a bit different with this image. I had been using for almost all of my flight shots, a very high shutter speed and large lens aperture. With this one, my aperture was still pretty large, but not as much, and I slowed the shutter speed down to I think 1/500. In this way, the wings really just became the blur you see. I like the effect. It's a nice contrast to the other images where I have tried to stop the wings in motion. This particular one was busy fighting for its place in the sacred twisted willow. Midlothian, Texas, September 2008
Stephen > This western kingbird was perching on a large flowering weed that had just been mowed as it surveyed the ground for insects. Midlothian, Texas, April 2008
Stephen > Scissor tailed flycatcher by Joe Pool Lake, Grand Prairie, Texas side.
Stephen > Sticking its beak into the butterfly bush flower, this ruby throated hummingbird takes a drink of nectar. The hummingbirds, like this one, are building up strength as they prepare to migrate south. Midlothian, Texas, September 2008
Stephen > This is one of the carolina chickadees that frequent my area often, but as usual it did not want to get out in the open so I had to deal with the branches. I do like the eye contact though.
