Stephen > Tricolored Heron ready to strike. This image was captured at the Laguna Madre Nature Trail, South Padre Island, Texas, June 2007.
Stephen > This was one of the few times I could capture a golden cheeked warbler on somewhat of a clear perch. This one was feeding on the seeds that you see and, in fact, if you look closely below the beak of the bird, you can see a seed falling. Los Madrones Ranch, Dripping Springs, Texas, April 2008.
Stephen > I am almost certain that this is a female dickcissel. Well, I know it is a dickcissel, but I am just not sure if it is a juvenile or female. Being that this image was taken in spring and the males are out singing to attract the females, I am going with my female identification. Midlothian, Texas, May 2009
Stephen > This image was actually captured by my wife using my back-up camera. I think she did a great job and it was the only good shot of a whooping crane in flight that we got the whole day. November 20, 2007, Aransas National Wildlife Refuge, near Rockport, Texas.

Stephen > The various ponds around the Las Colinas area just west of Dallas are known to play host to a nice variety of ducks during migration and winter. Here I found a male hooded merganser at sunset. Irving, Texas, November 2008
Stephen > This juvenile whooping crane was really digging in the mud, as was its parent, searching for crustaceans primarily or if it got lucky, a blue crab. Aransas National Wildlife Refuge, near Rockport, Texas, January 2009
Stephen > Whooping Crane from Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. This part of the refuge was much closer to Rockport, Texas on a small island in between Aransas NWR and Matagorda Island. The pair had separated, but not by much. One was foraging again while this one was standing guard it appeared.
