Stephen > I believe this is the fist day this bewick's wren chick emerged from its nest. It's parents were nearby calling. It seems to be asking for food. It was not making a sound, just extremely still with its mouth open. Midlothian, Texas, May 2009
Stephen > The bewick's wren was calling and basically having a fit as one of its young had just emerged from the nest. I suppose this one and the other adult were calling trying to distract attention from it. Midlothian, Texas, May 2009
Stephen > High in a dead tree, this Bewick's wren was about to belt out a song. Midlothian, Texas, March 2009
Stephen > The bewick's wrens around my house are getting more active again. It is nearing that time of year when they start looking for a mate. Here I photographed it on a crepe mrytle. Midlothian, Texas, February 2009
Stephen > This cactus wren, the largest of the wrens in the United States, paid me a quick visit at blind #1 at the Martin Refuge. It only stayed a few seconds and then it flew back into the brush. Edinburg, Texas, June 2008
Stephen > This male carolina wren was proudly proclaiming its territory or announcing itself to the females in the area. I'm not sure which. Anyhow, this shot shows its beak wide open belting out the tune. It is a tad soft as I was using AV mode set at F8. I was worried about the harsh sunset light on the back of the bird. My camera metered the light and shadows in such a way that it gave me a shutter speed of only 1/80 for this shot so with the movement it came out softer than I would like, but the image is workable. Midlothian, Texas, April 2008.
Stephen > This male carolina wren was busy singing loudly making claim to its territory. I was crouched on the ground in the middle of a bunch of dead branches trying to get this shot. Luckily, this wren was so preoccupied with its singing that it pretty much ignored me for the better part of 3 to 4 minutes. Midlothian, Texas, April 2008.
Stephen > This Bewick's Wren was flitting around this hackberry tree in my yard and allowed me this rather close approach before flying off to another tree. My DOF here is a bit shallow, but I still like the photo. Midlothian, Texas. March 2008.
Stephen > This Bewick's Wren was loudly calling and singing. I caught it as it took a rest. Midlothian, Texas, Feburary 2008.
