Stephen > I was birding my local area when, for the second day in a row, I found this red tailed hawk just off the side of the road on the ground. I am used to seeing harriers on the ground but not red tailed hawks unless they have prey. This one may have had prey, but the minute I slowed down in my vehicle it jumped to this fence a few feet away. I stopped thinking it would fly away, but it didn't. There must have been some dead prey on the ground that it did not want to leave. Anyhow, I snapped a few images on the fence and then took off leaving it to its prey. Midlothian, Texas, January 2009
