Stephen > This cloudy day, I spied what I think is a juvenile canvasback. It's definitely a canvasback and because of the coloration I am thinking a juvenile, but waterfowl is not my forte. Las Colinas Ponds, Irving, Texas, November 2008
Stephen > This cattle egret nest was located near the ground in dense foliage at the UTSW Rookery. It was extremely sunny at this time of the day and very hot. The cattle egrets must have been baking in the heat with the feathers. They were trying to cool off as best they could though. Dallas, Texas, July 2007.
Stephen > This is another one of the tens of juvenile black crowned night herons that I saw and photographed at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center rookery. Dallas, Texas, July 2007.
Stephen > This juvenile is from the same family that we had been observing at Aransas NWR. It had separated itself from the male and female but not by much. November 20, 2007.
Stephen > This is juvenile little blue heron was captured hunting at Aransas National Wildlife Refuge near Austwell, Texas, November 2007.
Stephen > This is was one of the juvenile whooping cranes we saw near its parents at the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge, November 20, 2007, near Rockport, Texas. The red area on its bill is actually a wildflower I believe that stuck to the bill while it was foraging. This was one of the few shots I was actually able to make with my camera. It's amazing how much brown is on these juveniles considering how white their plumage is as adults.
Stephen > I do not like the perch, but it is a very handsome juvenile Mississippi Kite, Midlothian, Texas, August 2007.
Stephen > This is a pair of what I think are either juvenile cattle egrets or juvenile great egrets that I photographed at the UT Southwestern Medical Center complex in downtown Dallas, Texas. There is rookery at this location that is used by all sorts of herons, egrets, and even a few ibises and anhingas. July 2007.
Stephen > This is a juvenile great egret that I photographed near the top of the canopy of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. I had set up my equipment in the the stairwell of the parking garage to get to the top of the canopy. Dallas, Texas, July 2007.
