Stephen > The great kiskadees are gregarious birds with plenty of character. When I noticed this one land at a water feature on a broiling hot day at the Weaver Ranch, I took advantage of the opportunity to photograph this charismatic bird. In reviewing my images, I thought this captured the character of the bird well with its head and beak held high. He seemed to be admiring his reflection in the water below. Stephen > The western kingbirds are back for the 2009 summer season. This is the first image of one for this year. It was diving down from this perch grabbing insects. Midlothian, Texas, April 2009
Stephen > These scissor tailed flycatchers just love man made perches, fences, posts or utility lines so I was not surprised to find this flycatcher sitting on this old iron post instead of perching for me on one of the many beautiful flowering weeds or nearby tree branches. Midlothian, Texas, April 2009

Stephen > In this photo, one can see the irrigation canal into which the vermilion flycatcher was diving to grab its prey. I was lucky in that it decided to perch a bit on this small, short stick so I was able to include the canal. Fennessey Ranch near Bayside, Texas, December 2008
