Stephen > This is another eastern phoebe from the Fennessey Ranch. The day was cold and cloudy so I had to increase the ISO and use a flash. Here the background is better than some of the other shots I did while visiting this ranch. This particular one was hanging out with some vermilion flycatchers near an irrigation canal on the ranch. Near Bayside, Texas, December 2008
Stephen > The background is busy, but I like to find eastern phoebes on something other than a fence so if I see a phoebe on a natural perch I try to make the best of it. Fennessey Ranch, near Bayside, Texas, December 2008
Stephen > This is one of the several eastern phoebes I was able to observe at the Fennessey Ranch. It was a very windy day when I visited and overcast so the shot does not have the best light, but I like the perch. Near Bayside, Texas, December 2008
Stephen > Living near a large number of hay farms and cattle pastures, barbed wire fences are rather common; therefore, I see a great number birds perching on them. This eastern phoebe is no exception. Midlothian, Texas, November 2008
Stephen > Same eastern phoebe as in the previous picture but with a different turn of the head. Los Madrones Ranch, Dripping Springs, Texas, April 2008.
Stephen > This eastern phoebe has been hanging around my yard quite regularly recently. This one allowed me to get just a little closer than normal so I took this shot of it on some barbed wire fencing. Midlothian, Texas, May 2008
Stephen > This Eastern Phoebe was perching at dusk while I was driving back to the "Casita" at Los Madrones Ranch near Dripping Springs, Texas. I first spotted it on the fence separating the Los Madrones Ranch from the neighboring ranch. It then flew and perched on this limb in the shade of some big oak trees on the side of the neighboring ranch. It stayed relatively calm so I was able to approach up to the fence, stick my lens through the fence and take this photograph. I used a flash for fill. April 2008.
Stephen > Busy background, but this phoebe gave me a nice pose although I couldn't get any closer as I was in an open field with no where to hide. Midlothian, Texas, March 2008.
Stephen > I was looking to take pictures of the huge flocks of savannah sparrows that were in this pasture next to my house when I unexpectedly came across this Eastern Phoebe. It was at the end of the day and the shadows were rather harsh so I used a flash for fill. I wish I could have had a better angle, but this is all I could do under the circumstances. Midlothian, Texas, March 2008.
