Stephen > I kept seeing this adult eastern bluebird perching on the chain link fence in my yard as it surveyed the ground for insects. I did not want to take a picture of it on the chain link fence so I camped out to try to get a picture of it as it landed on the ground. After quite a few attempts, I got lucky with this image. Stephen > This is a juvenile Eastern Bird that I caught watching its parent show the little one how to dive off a barbed wire fence to catch its prey on the ground. Midlothian, Texas, March 2008.
Stephen > While over at my parents' house I noticed some very active eastern bluebirds scooping up insects, mostly crickets, from the ground then nicely perching. I was hoping that one would perch on something natural like a branch of a tree, but these bluebirds seemed to like the utility line that stretched across the back of the yard. Finally, one perched on the fence, while not natural, at least it was not a utility line. It allowed me to get relatively close before flying off in search of more insects. Midlothian, Texas, April 2008.

Stephen > Taking time to sing a little. I realize this bluebird is not singing now, but it was in between frames. Midlothian, Texas, February 2008.

Stephen > This eastern bluebird let me approach relatively closely as it was preoccupied with a mockingbird that kept chasing it around my backyard as the mockingbird was defending its territory. Midlothian, Texas. February 2008.
