Stephen > This is one of the northern cardinals that was hanging around the feeding station near the Visitor's Center at Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge. This area is heavily shaded by native bushes and trees, but I did catch this cardinal in some dappled light. Near Rio Hondo, Texas, June 2008
Stephen > This is an early morning image of a northern cardinal foraging near a feeding station at Los Madrones Ranch near Dripping Springs, Texas, April 2008.
Stephen > While out birding in my town, I found this cardinal high in a tree. I believe it is a juvenile but I could be wrong. I could not acheive a clear shot, but the light was nice and I like the color of the cardinal so I tried to get the cleanest image possible. Midlothian, Texas, March 2008.
Stephen > I heard this little guy calling in the evening. Since the light was pretty nice and this cardinal didn't seem to mind my relatively close approach, I decided to take a few clicks with my camera. Midlothian, Texas, March 2008.
Stephen > I got lucky with this photo. I had been chasing various birds including the male cardinal, but it just would not let me get close, but I did find less skittish female cardinal. I had to photograph through some branches but I think the image turned out relatively well. Midlothian, Texas, March 2008.
Stephen > This very skittish male northern cardinal would not allow me to get close but for some reason it calmed down while perched on this barbed wire fence. It probably felt a bit safer because it was under quite a bit of foliage as one can tell from the low light. It was actually pretty bright outside but this guy made me take a shot of him in the shadows. Midlothian, Texas, March 2008.
Stephen > This cardinal was singing very loudly as it perched in my backyard, Midlothian, Texas. July 2007.
Stephen > This male northern cardinal had just given the fledgeling a morsel to eat. I unfortunately could not capture the "pass" from one beak to another, but in this photo, it almost looks like the father is smugly grinning at his young. Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, Glen Rose, Texas, July 2007.
Stephen > Male Northern Cardinal, San Antonio, Texas, June 2007.
