Birds > Stephen  > Animals > Falcons, Hawks, Kites, Eagles and Vultures
This is simply a collection of different raptors that I have photographed from in and around my local area and the state of Texas. I had never really realized that there were so many different birds of prey in Texas ranging from the small American Kestrel to the Bald Eagle.

Stephen > This red shouldered hawk had been perched on a utility line overlooking a small ditch with water in it. As I slowly passed in my vehicle, it flew to the other side of the road and perched in this tree. The perch is better but the light was much more harsh. This is a male because its larger female mate is just out of the frame. Huffman, Texas, January 2009
Stephen > The American Kestrel is very common but for me it is difficult to photograph as they are so shy. This kestrel was not that close to me, but it was in nice light and perched on something other than a utility wire. Midlothian, Texas, Jan 2009

Stephen > This is another male American Kestrel that I found at the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge taking issue with my lens. The skies were continuing to play havoc with me. It was difficult to obtain a proper exposure. Near Austwell, Texas, November 2007.
