Your Bio

My name is Stephen Pollard and welcome to my amateur photography site, Capture the Pixel.

I am strictly a hobbyist photographer. I do this for fun! I love getting outside mostly taking pictures of wildlife, primarily birds, but I am starting to like landscape photography a bit more as well. My photography hobby has given me a renewed interest in the environment, flora and fauna. The beauty contained therein is simply awesome and something I wish more people would see so they too could become better advocates for the environment. After all, this the only Earth we have. What you will see here is mainly bird photography. Birds just have this ineffable quality that I like to capture in all its digital glory. The birds you see are a result of walking around outside looking up and down, left and right. I like to get out and look around to see what I can find always looking for that perfect shot! I have also visited a few ranches dedicated to wildlife photography that I have enjoyed immensely.

It's funny. Many people with whom I talk say they are amazed by all the wildlife so close to them. They just didn't realize what was around them. I guess that is one my goals; to show people what wildlife is around them and how they can appreciate it just like me.

Look around and enjoy. I like sharing the pictures just as much as I like taking them. Additionally you can click indicating that you like a photo. Please click the thumb icon because I like seeing which photos visitors like the most which, curiously enough, are not always the ones I like the most.

If you would like to purchase some of my photos or use them in any way, SmugMug offers a great printing service that will mail the photos right to your doorstep. If you are a publisher and are looking for specific pictures, some of my images are available in stock image format from
Photo Edit Inc

If you would like to contact me, please do so. I'd love to hear from you.

Publications:

The magazine, Birder's World, published one of my photos of a Mississippi Kite in the Fieldcraft section of the magazine. It appears in the February 2009 edition.

The Birds of North America Online sponsored by Cornell University and the American Ornithologist's Union are using two of my photos of a White Tailed Hawk in its description of this hawk. To see the pictures though, one has to be a paying member of the site I believe.

Cuckoos : Various images of different cuckoos that I have photographed. These tend to be very shy birds so any time I can photograph any type of cuckoo I feel fortunate. This family is also quite strange. It ranges from the relatively normal looking yellow billed cuckoos to the absolutely weird looking anis. I am going to try to overlook that at times they are parasitic brooders like cowbirds.

Cardinals, Pyrrhuloxias, Buntings, Grosbeaks, Dickcissels and Tanagers : Some of the prettiest birds in my area. The cardinals all have bright, vivid colors and beautiful songs. The cousin of the cardinal, the pyrrhuloxia, is equally as colorful and of course the buntings and grosbeaks look like they had paint spilled on them. Many are spring and summer visitors while the cardinals are here in my area all year.
